An employee with the Knoxville School District is under investigation today after an alleged act of misconduct with a high school student.

The student and her mother brought the incident to the attention of school administrators on Tuesday. The school district called the Knoxville Police Department to investigate.

''They asked for our assistance investigating that, so at this time we're continuing the investigation into the alleged misconduct," said Chief Dan Losada, Knoxville Police Department. "We have one allegation of misconduct and I don't know how many are involved."

Police are not releasing the names of anyone involved and said the investigation could take weeks.

"These investigations have taken as long as a day but can go up to several weeks, so it's impossible for me to predict how long this will take," said Chief Losada.

The Knoxville School District released this statement:

"Recently, the administration of the Knoxville High School and Knoxville School District were advised of an alleged act of misconduct by a school employee toward a high school student. At this time, the district is cooperating with the Knoxville Police Department in the investigation of the alleged incident. Our primary concern is the safety of our students. During the course of the investigation the employee accused of misconduct is on paid administrative leave."

Knoxville's Superintendent Randy Flack said the employee is on paid administrative leave until the investigation is completed.
