City leaders explained their plan for a new Clive town center at an open house Wednesday. The center would span over ten acres of Clive and have everything from shopping to recreation to restaurants.

The city wants to fill green space surrounding the Aquatic Center with something unique to the town. They began looking at the idea of a city center back in August of 2012.

Tuesday they heard from the public at an open house. Some feedback the city has already received: Make Clive's greenbelt a part of the city center.

"This town center really pulls this greenbelt up from the Walnut Creek watershed and into the town square," said Dennis Reynolds.

Reynolds Urban Design has taken on the task of mapping out the city's plans.

"It's an exciting project," Reynolds said. "It's an opportunity to develop a piece of land that's right in the heart of Clive."

City leaders believe giving Clive a little more life will accommodate the large population growth they project over the next 15 years.

"It can be a point of pride for Clive and the rest of the region in terms of how we know where the center access point is for the community and for everybody in the region to enjoy," said Assistant City Manager Matthew McQuillen.

"This is a town center that, yes, it will be a little bit like some places we maybe have visited and know, but it will be unique and distinct to Clive as well," said Reynolds.

The city hopes to have a go-ahead on the project by the fall. The planning and building process will be long; they estimate having it completed by 2017.
