Thursday night Windsor Heights Police responded to a single car accident just one block away from their department at 66th Street and Mott Avenue.

Around 10 p.m., a person noticed a car that had gone off of the roadway and slammed into a utility pole.

"There was a citizen from down the road that had come upon it, and called law enforcement. I believe it was a snow plow driver in the area," said Lt. Derek Meyer, Windsor Heights Police Department.

When police arrived, they found the car with an unresponsive driver inside. The driver, whose name has not been released, was extricated from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident closed 66th Street for three hours and police said the winter conditions and slick roads likely played a role.
