At Iowa Radiology, early detection for breast cancer is what they're going for.  Since last year they've had great new technology, but now they want to get the word out and make it commonplace.

The technical name is tomosynthesis but in layman's terms, it's a 3D mammogram.  It's been in Iowa for more than a year and it's innovative.

Experts say it gives more complete image slices throughout the breast boosting accuracy and reducing callbacks by more than 50 percent.

But this technology isn't exactly well known and Medicare doesn't cover it.  Clinic director DeAnn Weuve says that causes people to pick less accurate 2D mammograms.

"When they're limited on funds they won't pay the additional fee for this type of technology," says Weuve.

They've found an ally in David Young who's currently running for the US House District 3.

The clinic hopes more candidates will run on this issue because even with this great technology you have to get people to take advantage of it.
