The Iowa State Patrol responded to dozens of weather-related accidents Sunday, but some people still braved the roads to run their weekend errands.

"My drive wasn't bad until I went over to about Southeast 14th Street and that hill is just not any fun to get up," said Jacob Bush of Des Moines who drove to get groceries on Sunday.

Bush saw multiple car wrecks on his trip.

"There were two or three accidents when I was going that way over about 1:00," he said.

The State Patrol worked double time to respond to accidents across the metro.

Snow–covered roads in Iowa are nothing new, but the slightest mistake can send your car flying.

"I was in a rollover accident one time in the winter," said Heidi Cline of Des Moines who also ventured out in the snow Sunday. "I was actually thrown out of a vehicle."

After an experience like that, some people might choose to avoid the snow and ice altogether. Cline said the roads were reasonable to drive on this weekend.

"If the roads are really bad, I'll just stay home," she said. "Today I felt like I could probably get my errands done."

Even though both the snow and cars piled up, many drivers say you can still hit the road safely.

"I just slow down, use caution, give myself plenty of breaking time, just took it real slow," Cline said.

The snow should stop overnight Sunday, giving road crews the chance to catch up.

The State Patrol still advises taking things slowly on the way into work Monday.
