An Iowa man is a finalist in a national competition for new inventors.

Randy Belding, of Pella, is one of 20 finalists in Walmart's "Get On The Shelf" contest.

Belding's story starts ten years ago, while putting together a toy racetrack for his son Jay.

"We both had a lot more fun figuring out how to make it work than actually watching the car go through the loops," said Belding.

Belding developed Blu Track, a design your own track system, offering an infinite number of outcomes for designers.

"When the neighbors started borrowing the track and some of the parents asked if they could buy some, we kind of figured we had something."

Since then, the create-your-own-track has found success, attracting hundreds of videos of custom made tracks on YouTube.

ABC News even shot a story featuring Belding and his product.

Belding is currently one of four finalists in the "Made in the U.S.A." category for the contest.

The final winner of Walmart's competition will have their product sold on the Walmart website, and have extra marketing support.

Voting wrapped up Thursday night. Five finalists will be announced, with one overall winner after that.

"We're hopeful, there's a lot of good people we're competing against."
