Iowa State University senior Jake Swanson had a vision after seeing the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival and having a passion for bacon.

After six months of preparation and determination, Swanson became the founder of the first ever Iowa State University Bacon Expo.

"I had a vision, I had an idea and this is exactly what I had hoped for. I hoped that we would sell out a couple hundred tickets, we would have vendors come from all over Iowa," said Swanson.

Over one thousand tickets sold out in the first 48 hours when they went on sale in September.

Saturday, Swanson expected that over 1,200 pounds of bacon would be consumed in under four hours.

"You have no choice if you're an Iowan, you love bacon."

"There's a combination of the sweetness and the smokiness, it's absolutely beautiful," said a vendor.

"We also like the bacon bourbon scratch cupcake."

"I think there's a chocolate covered bacon dish around here somewhere that I'll have to scope out later." But Swanson couldn't wait as he dove into the piece of bacon half-dipped into melted Hershey's Milk Chocolate. "You wouldn't think it would taste that great, but the sweet and salty mix, spot on... perfect."

However, the favorite seemed to be the bacon fried in jalapeno juice.

"The jalapeno, it's very good."

"I like the jalapeno bacon, never tried it before so I liked that one."

"I got in line for a second time…Shhh."

By 5 o'clock, the first ever Iowa State University Bacon Expo was in the books.

"It's incredible seeing a simple idea come to this great event. It's amazing, its a great feeling," said Swanson.

Swanson said ISU hopes to keep this tradition alive, all for the love of bacon.
