Marion Harris was shot and killed at the Courtside Bar and Grill two years ago. It has since been turned into a donut shop, but friends and family still gathered in the parking lot where it all happened.

Harris left behind friends, family and eight children. Wednesday his mother, Joyce Webster, stood in the very spot where her son laid dying two years ago.

"Not a day goes by that I don't think about it," Webster said. "Especially around this time."

They sent Marion the messages that they can no longer speak to him by releasing balloons into the sky.

Webster said the memory of the night he died still keeps his mother up at night.

"I couldn't go back to sleep because I just seen it over and over in my head," she said.

Still no one has been charged, but for one friend, Marion's death led to something positive.

"I just felt I needed to stand up and speak up for my community and say 'enough is enough,'" said Calvetta Williams. "We don't want to bury no one else. I don't want to bury my son."

Williams started the Mothers Against Violence group in Marion's honor.

She recently took his picture with her to Washington D.C. for a national rally.

"I speak his name wherever I go speak," Williams said. "I have his pictures. His name lives on."

Like Williams, Marion's mom wants to see an end to violence here in Des Moines.

Even more so, she'd like to see someone held responsible for her son's death.

"It'll be a lot less painful when someone is charged," Webster said. "It's not going to take the pain away but it will make me feel a little better."

Des Moines police say that the case is still open, but there are no new leads. Anyone with information can call the Polk County Crimestoppers anonymously at 515-223-1400.
