Police will always say if you see something suspicious, don't hesitate and just call them.  That's what happened here at Union Park Wednesday morning.

Just after eight o'clock the Des Moines Bomb Squad came in to investigate what's described as a camera bag.

Police deployed a robot to pick up the bag, put it in a safety tub and take it off the scene.

Police then took the package down around the Harriet Street Bridge and detonated it.

Going through what was left, they found energetic material that could create an explosion.  It was two pipe bombs, about a foot long and something that could be made in a garage for $30.

"It appeared to be two metal pipes with a fuse coming out of them.  Obviously became suspicious of that.  Sat it down and called us," says Sgt. Jason Halifax.

Now the search is on for who placed the bag in the park.

Police say if anyone has information to call the Des Moines Detective Bureau (515) 283-4869 or Polk County Crime Stoppers (515) 223-1400.
