WesleyLife's Meals on Wheels delivers between 900-1,000 meals to their clients every day.

They begin at 5 a.m. and work into the afternoon, delivering hot and cold meals all over Des Moines. Deliveries are made to people over the age of 60 and older adults who are home-bound.

"You know we're one of the fastest aging states in the nation and what we see here is a need in Des Moines that's continually growing," said Jaimie Miller, Director of Philanthropy at WesleyLife.

Most of the meals come at little to no cost to the clients.

"Our Meals on Wheels clients, about 90% receive low cost or no cost meals and that's why Meals on Wheels events like this ‘Rockin' and Rollin' for Meals on Wheels' event this Saturday is so critical to meeting that need in the community," said Miller.

"The fundraiser is a big part of us fulfilling our mission of providing nutritional assistance to those who need it regardless of their ability to pay," said Adam Lathrop, Program Director at WesleyLife.

Meals on Wheels hopes to provide 16,000 meals thanks to the Rockin' and Rollin' for Meals on Wheels fundraiser this Saturday, September 28th.

That way more of their clients can live a little easier.

"It's healthy, and I've lost some weight, and I like it. They take care of you right away," said Donna S. Joyce, Meals on Wheels client, "That's why I got it, it's great."

The 50's-themed Rockin' and Rollin' for Meals on Wheels event will be held at the Coca-Cola Atlantic Bottling Distribution Center in Waukee at 6 p.m. Tickets are available by contacting WesleyLife Philanthropy, athys@wesleylife.org
