Iowa State hit record enrollment this year, and with all the extra students, a quick lunch in one of the dining centers can turn into a headache.

"It's pretty packed when you go to lunch, especially around 12 p.m. - 1 p.m," said one ISU freshman. "You can't even find a spot."

The people at Battle's Barbeque and three other restaurants stepped up to help.

"We're just trying to ease the tension off the dining services a little bit," said Battle's Barbeque General Manager Chad Watkins.

After debuting one cart last May, ISU decided to bring in three more.

Watkins slices up smoked pork for a line of students and staff who take their lunch time outside of the cafeteria.

"You get a different feel when you come out here because you're dealing with us one–on–one," Watkins said. "You place your order, we make exactly what you want."

Battle's said that unique experience serves up more than just another dining option.

It's all about the speed —

"Thirty seconds to get your sandwich and you can be on your way," Watkins said.

The location —

"Very convenient," noted an ISU freshman. "I'd say it's very convenient."

And, of course, the sauce.

"A little bit tangy," another diner reviewed. "Barbeque–ey – but not too thick – it's delicious."

The dining carts are open from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. each weekday. ISU said if things go well, they might open even more in the future.
