Des Moines police are looking for someone who's been spotted more than once by surveillance cameras using fake money: paying for gas at the Git N Go on East 29th and at the McDonalds on East University.

The surveillance pictures of that suspect are from August 4th. Now police wonder if he's also behind three more counterfeit cases Tuesday: one at the Merle Hay Bakery Outlet, one at Dollar General on Hubble Avenue and one at Nat's Food Mart on Second Ave.

Des Moines police Sgt. Daniel Blom explains the difficulty of tracking them down because fake money changes hands so much.

"So whether or not the person who's in possession of the bill when it was turned over or discovered to be counterfeit.  It's difficult to say that person is the person who produced it," says Sgt. Blom.

Punishment for counterfeiting and fraud can range depending on how involved you are.  Either way, it's probable that federal officials and federal charges will be involved.
