Faced with a brutal schedule last year, an 8-5 season was a big letdown for Michigan.
"We've got a lot that I think we learned a year ago. We had five losses with 18 turnovers. That's three turnovers a game in losses. You can't play football that way" said Michigan coach Brady Hoke.
Despite the disappointment Michigan's confidence is sky high for 2013.
"I think we've grown and we've grown on both sides of the front. Even though they're young I think the understanding they have of how we're gonna play Michigan football, maybe there's a little more clarity to it."
Quarterback Devin Gardner is in charge of the offense now after impressing following injury to Denard Robinson last year.
"I think all that experience whether its positive or its negative he's learned. I mean look you're talking about a kid who graduated from Michigan in 3 years. I mean he is an extremely intelligent young man" said Hoke.
Its year three of the Brady Hoke era and 2013 should say a lot about where Michigan football is headed.
"Our goal is always win the Big Ten Conference because you gotta start there" said Hoke.
