Expectations at Northwestern are high this fall. In 2012 the Wildcats were just a few plays away from going unbeaten.
"I've kind of heard it a little bit well maybe they might be ok and then you look at the forecast and we're picked 4th. That's not ok that kinds of stinks. But that's the way the national perception is. You can't control that" said head coach Pat Fitzgerald.
Northwestern's ten wins in 2012 tied the record for most wins in school history. With 15 starters returning it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see the Wildcats playing in the Big Ten Championship.
"I don't see a bunch of Big Ten Championship trophies in our case. We're far from where we want to be but I think we're gaining on that day by day."
The Wildcats lose three starters on the offensive line but the backfield is strong. 1,300 yard rusher Venric Marc returns along with quarterbacks Kain Colter and Trevor Siemian.
"One of those two guys is going to be our starting quarterback and Kain obviously goes out there first as our senior and the success that he's had in the past and I'm excited to watch that unfold.
