Last year's 3-5 record in the Big Ten didn't sit well with Michigan State.

"Guys are challenging themselves, they're challenging this team to be better than we were a year ago" said linebacker Max Bullough.

Michigan State's offense went through running back Leveon Bell in 2012. Bell rushed for nearly 1,800 yards and 12 touchdowns.

"I don't know if you totally replace a Leveon Bell because he does so many other things that other people don't see. He's a great blocker, he's a great running back, he's got great vision and balance but all that was an accumulation of experiences" said head coach Mark Dantonio.

With Bell gone the offense could use significant improvement from Andrew Maxwell who struggled in his first season under center.

"Quarterback is about decision making. Gotta make great decisions. I think experience has a lot to do with that and then the next thing you have to do as a quarterback is create when things break down" said Dantonio.
