Homebuilders Donating Sales to Cancer Charity

By: Jason Rantala

A Des Moines–area home builder is once again giving back.

The four bedroom home at 340 Aspen Drive in Bondurant is expected to sell for $240,000.

But what's different about this new home, is that a large portion of its profits will be going to charity.

"Last year, we knew we wanted to give to some charity, we wanted to give back in some way," said builder Corey Kautz with Greenland Homes.

In 2012, Corey Kautz with Greenland Homes donated $50,000 from a home sale in Grimes. This year, he hopes to top that donation.

Greenland will again be giving some profits to Children's Cancer Connection.

"When we met with them, we just knew they were the ones we wanted to be involved with," said Kautz.

"Corey contacted us and just wanted to know a little more about our organization. We sat down and met with them and it was kind of a perfect match," said Emily Fish, Director of Donor Relations for Children's Cancer Connection.

Children's Cancer Connection provides hospital–based programs, family outings and other activities for children with cancer and their families.

They're trying to raise money for kids to attend Camp Heart Connection, their oncology camp.

"It's an opportunity for kids to spend a week in kind of a normal atmosphere. They're all experiencing the same difficulties on the journey of childhood cancer," said Fish.

The Bondurant home was finished three weeks ago, and features hardwood floors, appliances and tile back splash.

For builder Corey and Greenland Homes, it's less about the home, and more about giving back.

"It's a great feeling, and you can tell even going and asking everybody to donate a little bit, just everybody's moods were a lot different than building a production house, everybody was happy to be here, and I think everybody at the end of the day feels good about it," said Kautz.

Corey says he again plans on donating profits from homes in the future.

There is an open house on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
