A new online job forum is now available for prospective teachers in Iowa.

"TeachIowa.gov is a new online education job posting system that centralizes the job search for employers and employees while keeping hiring decisions local," said D.T. Magee, the acting director of the Iowa Department of Education.

The website is part of the education reform passed this legislative session.

"This means a convenient, streamlined process with less paperwork for job applicants, and more cost savings to Iowa, school districts and taxpayers," Magee said.

Districts are required to post all jobs to teachiowa.gov.

It's free for both the districts and potential teachers.

"It lets schools choose the best candidates by broadening the pool of candidates statewide," Magee said.

Dallas Center-Grimes has used an online system for the past two years. The superintendent, Scott Grimes, said it's made the hiring process easier.

"Once this process has been started our district is able to begin reviewing applicants for positions within hours of posting instead of within two weeks," Grimes said.

Governor Branstad said it will create more competition for those teaching jobs, giving students the best end of the deal.

"I think it will make it a lot easier for a really good teacher that wants to come to Iowa," Branstad said. "Before you had to basically go individual district by district and determine whether there's a vacancy and whether you had the right qualifications and background for that."

The website was launched today. Schools already have job postings up on the site.
