Johnston won its second state baseball championship in six years on Saturday, defeating Sioux City East 9-3 at Principal Park.
The Dragons, whose last title came in 2008, scored three runs in the second inning and erupted for five more in the fourth. Johnston pounded out 11 hits in the Class 4-A state final.
Johnston, the fourth-seeded team in 4-A, beat Linn-Mar of Marion in Wednesday's first round before knocking off top-seeded Des Moines East in the semifinals Friday. Sioux City East was seeded third.
