An arsonist is behind bars for setting a fire overnight.

Eighteen year old Lequan Clark of Des Moines approached firefighters responding to the call last night. Clark said he used to live at the residence and when asked about the last time he had been around the house, Clark could not keep his story straight.

Police brought Clark to the police station where he confessed to starting the fire on the foreclosed home. But investigators believe it is not related to the foreclosure.

"It does not appear that it is related to the foreclosure, the foreclosure had already taken place, typically if a foreclosed home is being burned, it is more of a fraud thing you'll see that early on as the process starts," said Sergeant Jason Halifax, Des Moines Police Department.

No one was injured in the fire.
