The moment you cross Iowa's Southern border into Missouri one of the first things you see are signs for fireworks.

One sign in particular reads, "Free Fireworks for Iowans."

"There have been a good amount of Iowans coming in," said Tim Mayes, Sky Bloom's Fireworks store. "Some of them are joking about how they're popping across the border and going right back in five minutes after they've hit the stop and finished up."

Sky Bloom's Fireworks decided to offer a special deal to Iowans since none of their top selling products can be sold inside Iowa's borders.  You can carry fireworks in the state, but cannot shoot them off.

Iowa officials cite safety concerns.  The State Fire Marshal's Office says fireworks caused 53 fires in the state last year alone, which is nearly double the number in 2011.

But the risk is worth it to Iowans who travel across the border celebrate their family and the nation their family calls home.

"We've done it for as a traditional thing," said Edwin Ramirez. "Kind of celebrate also that my parents have been able to get a new opportunity in America rather than what they use to live under in their country."
