As soon as some Iowans heard that the Supreme Court bolstered two items on the gay rights agenda, they went to the front of the Iowa Statehouse to celebrate.

Rainbow flags were flown all along the steps.  Gay and lesbian couples met with their straight allies to listen to speakers and the Des Moines Gay Men's Chorus.

One Iowa, the same-sex marriage advocacy group, organized the celebratory event on the west steps.

The rally brought together same sex-couples, priests, legislators and activists; all to speak about the major breakthrough that happened Wednesday.

"It's been a burden on Iowa families for so long.  It's great.  Married Iowa couples now, not only are they married in Iowa, but the federal government now recognized them as a married couple and it's just fantastic," says Matty Smith from One Iowa.

Iowa's same sex couples are now recognized on a national level.  They join 13 other states that also recognize their marriages.
