Police from Des Moines, West Des Moines, Clive, Ankeny and even Mason City... they've all been looking for who's been breaking into cars across the state.

After two months on the trail, metro police finally arrested 33-year-old Kyle Krug and 26-year-old Amanda Earp.

Earlier this summer, huge signs stood in front of recreation and fitness centers in the metro warning people about the spree of car break-ins.

A lead came after a tip from another arrest.

Police caught up to Krug from Mason City and Earp from Ankeny, who police say have been browsing through parking lots looking for valuable items to steal including credit cards. That brings financial crimes into the equation.

According to a maintenance worker at The Lodge motel in Ankeny, police stormed a room and caught the two with piles of stolen purses, cell phones and credit cards.

Police even recovered a stolen SUV.

Police say the couple could be connected to dozens of burglaries and thefts from the metro to Mason City.

"As soon as they'd get those cards they'd take off and go charge them right away knowing they'd have some lag time before they'd get canceled," explained Sgt. Jason Halifax from Des Moines PD.

Earp so far has seven charges. Krug has eleven: several for burglary, more for false use of credit cards and even a robbery.

Police say this is just the beginning because it takes a while for financial crimes to build up.
