The 6th Annual Doodle 4 Google contest drew more than 130,000 entries from across the nation. Only one winner is chosen from each state.

"I think it's a huge deal," said Google representative Kate Kolbert-Hyle. "One winner in the entire state of Iowa - so it's pretty special."

Iowa's winner is Marissa Frost, an 8th grader at Urbandale Middle School.

The Frost family found out she won a few weeks ago.

"I started crying almost because I was just surprised, and my family was thinking something bad happened," said Marissa's mother, Tammy Frost. "I'm like, 'No, Marissa just won the Google thing!' and she was kind of surprised and excited."

The theme for this year's Doodle 4 Google contest was "My best day ever." For Marissa, that day is part of a long term goal.

"The day when I have my PHD in medical science, being able to help others," Marissa said.

Her medically inspired doodle will go up against drawings from a student from every state.

"My mom, sister and dad were excited," Marissa explained. "My friends are convinced that I'm going to win the whole thing, and I'm like, 'I don't know about that,' but they're really excited and stuff."

For now, the Frost family is getting ready for the trip that Marissa's doodle won them to New York City, and relishing in the excitement of being the best across Iowa.

"It's a very big deal, and I'm very proud of her and her hard work that she's put into it and we'll see where it takes us," Tammy said.

You can vote for Marissa to win at the Doodle 4 Google page.
