Several hundred Iowans gathered at Point of Grace Church in Waukee Saturday to listen to pro-life speakers, and attend seminars on how to advance their cause.
The Iowa Republican Party held its "Celebrate Life" event.
The majority of people there had one thing in common; they believe life begins at conception.
But after that, they varied between new comers and long time political figures, with the goal of spreading their right to life agenda.
Dara Makohoniuk-Martin and her family came to get involved in the pro-life movement and to meet former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee - the keynote speaker of the event.
"He took his time to talk with us and we're not big donors to some political campaign. We're just people and he literally just took the time to meet us and talk with us," says Makohoniuk-Martin.
"It's kind of like a family reunion when I come back here cause I spent so much time here over the course of several years and it's amazing the depth of the relationships you can build with people," says Huckabee.
Dara's son Taylor met Gov. Huckabee once before at the Arkansas School for the Blind. He loved the opportunity.
"It was fun and nerve-racking at the same time," says Martin.
Dara says getting high profile and inspiring figures to speak at this event draws positive attention to the issue.
"We still have the common goal of trying to educate each other to truly change the position on abortion in the country," says Makohoniuk-Martin.
Many pro-life groups held seminars. Some of them were titled "pro-life activism 101" and "how to pin planned parenthood."
Many at the event voiced positive comments about the Iowa Republican Party fully embracing their pro-life position.
