A robber hit two different pharmacies Thursday afternoon and then led police on a high-speed chase.
It started at a Medicap pharmacy in Altoona around 1:30 p.m. Police say the suspect, 21-year -old Devan Parsons of Des Moines, gave a note to the cashier saying he had a gun. The cashier hit the panic button and did not give in to Parsons' demand.
He left and a short time later Ankeny police got a call about a robbery at the Medicap there. Parsons did steal narcotics from this store.
Officers were able to catch up with the Parsons' car, which started a chase that went through a Menards parking lot where Parsons' damaged four police vehicles.
He then led them south on Delaware into Des Moines where he crashed into someone else's truck at the intersection of Guthrie.
Parsons, uninjured, tried to run, but police caught him. Speeds reached more than 80 miles an hour.
Parsons is charged with eluding, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon, which was his vehicle. More charges may come from Des Moines for the crash and traffic violations.
Police say Parsons robbed that same Altoona Medicap pharmacy in November where he stole a substantial amount of narcotics.
