Working Over Christmas

Whether you're keeping the metro safe from fires, or running the screens at your local motion picture show, people still have to work over Christmas.
Like the eight to ten people who watch over Fire Station #3 in Des Moines.

For the most part, firefighters treat this day just like any other; part of their one day on, two days off rotation.

Except, they get a few pies and treats from the neighborhood.

Then they all pitch in for a Christmas meal together.

"Holidays are busier than most people think.  We've already been out four or five times on mostly medical calls.  People get sick and stuff.  No fire calls, I think they might be down a little bit on holidays," says Captain Dave Burford from Fire Station #3.

On the other side of town, Fleur cinema is hit with one of its busiest days.

So they keep the popcorn and pop coming to the hundreds of people that come through to see the holiday movies.

In the service industry your day will be determined by your customers.  Workers say everyone's pretty much in a good mood.  Despite the crowd. they keep that holiday spirit alive.
"It's very busy, but it is Christmas day and so everybody's mood is pretty good.  So it's also a lot of fun," says Jon Petersen, GM of Fleur Cinema.
