Release from the Iowa Barnstormers:
DES MOINES – Iowa Barnstormers Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Mike Hohensee announced today that the team has been assigned Defensive Back Ter'Ran Benton, on a two-year deal. Benton becomes the first player assigned to the Barnstormers during the Arena Football League's free agency period for exclusive negotiations with players from a team's 2012 roster, which opened on Monday, Oct. 15 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 28.
Benton (6-0, 203) joined the Barnstormers for the final 4 games of the 2012 season and had an immediate impact on the coaching staff. During his short time with Iowa, he started all four games, recording 13 tackles, 2 pass break-ups and forced a fumble. Benton is best known to Iowans from his four year standout career at Iowa St. University (2008-11).
During his time at Iowa State, Benton appeared in 46 career games, making 33 starts. In total, he recorded 188 career tackles, including 13.5 for a loss and 3 interceptions. A native of Arlington, TX, Benton was named a Cyclones team captain in both 2010 and 2011.
"We're extremely excited to have Ter'Ran Benton back with the Barnstormers for two more seasons", stated Hohensee. "Although he played just a handful of games, we found out immediately that his skills are a great fit for the Arena game."
