All weekend long we've been searching for Iowa's newest millionaire and Tuesday we finally got a chance to meet him.

But he almost wasn't. That precious ticket holding the key to thousands, ended up in a public trash can this weekend.

Tom Christeson is the third big winner from Webster City in two years. But what's weird about this one, is Tom actually threw his winning ticket away.

When he bought the ticket at the new Hy-Vee on 87th and Douglas Ave. in Urbandale, he actually bought two of them.

On Sunday when he was shopping with his family at the Valley West Mall, he checked the tickets to see if they were winners. Tom threw one the tickets away and rushed off to tell his family.

But on a closer inspection, something was wrong. The wrong ticket was thrown away! So for fifteen minutes, a million dollars was practically up for grabs.

Eventually Tom's daughters found the ticket in the trash.

After taxes, the grain truck driver will walk away with about $700,000. He plans to retire from work in January, after the fall corn harvest season is over.

No one matched all the numbers Saturday night, so the lottery will try to give away it's big prize of $90 million again Wednesday night.
