DES MOINES-- Variety the Children's Charity raises millions of dollars each year for children with disabilities. One of the ways is by selling lapel pins.
For the first time ever Lucas films, the creator of the Star Wars Franchise, has allowed its brand to be used to help out a charity dear to Iowans' hearts.
"Lucas was involved with everything from the design of the pin, from where it was produced, and that is what makes it special," said Stan Reynolds.
Each year Variety features a new character or theme to their pin that annually raises $6 million dollars nationwide. This year's design features popular characters from the Star Wars movies.
All of the money raised in Iowa stays in Iowa and goes directly to helping children in need. Since they started selling these pins 20 years ago, the club has made more than $60 million dollars.
The pins are $3.00 and are being sold in Carmike and Marcus theaters in the metro.
