Lisa Carponelli anchors ABC5 News at 5 & 6 and Ten at 10 on ABC5.

Lisa joined ABC5 as its main anchor in September, 2001. Lisa is a reporter’s anchor, believing that facts should drive stories, not hype. She asks two questions of every story: Why should viewers care; and how can I make it easier for them to understand? This no-nonsense approach comes across in her style, and in the credibility she brings to the news desk.

The Northwest Broadcast News Association recently honored Lisa with its Eric Sevareid Award for her reports on children and fire safety. The Associated Press has recognized her reporting, and the Iowa’s Safe Kids Coalition recently awarded her for a series of stories highlighting the potential dangers of airbags and children. A follow-up to her story earned the Iowa division of the Associated Press' highest award, for Best Investigative story of 2005. She is a member of Drake University’s National Advisory Board for the School of Journalism .

Lisa works closely with the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign and the Heart Connection, a program to help kids with cancer.

Prior to joining ABC5 News, Lisa anchored the 11 p.m. newscast at WMGM-TV in Atlantic City , New Jersey. While at WMGM, Lisa was the recipient of the best news story award for 2000 from the New Jersey Broadcasters Association. Previously, Lisa worked at KPVI-TV in Pocatello , Idaho , where she began her career in television as a reporter and weekend anchor. Lisa, is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and holds a master's degree from The Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University .

She lives in Des Moines with her family. In the summer of 2005, Lisa and her husband Mike climbed Mt. McKinley in Alaska. Also known as Denali, it is the tallest peak in North America standing 20,320 feet.
