WDM Native Rocks Out With U2 in LA

WEST DES MOINES- For just a moment, a central Iowa native was able to live a life-long dream- rocking out in front of 25,000 screaming fans.

Call it luck, but it's pure talent that's catching the attention of record reps in Los Angeles. Tonight, what the rockers from U2, and a West Des Moines Valley High graduate have in common. Music acts are a dime a dozen these days in Los Angeles, but for the all female quartet, who call themselves "Exit," a lucky break came along last month.

They were in the front row of a sold out U2 concert at the Staple Center in Los Angeles. A self-made poster advertising their talent caught the eye of lead singer Bono, who brought them on stage to play a song. Trevi Fligg, from "Exit," said, "I personally turned around and heard this deafening roar. It was a crazy, crazy moment."

27-year-old Trevi Fligg is "Exit's" lead singer, and a West Des Moines native. She went to California last year to live the big city life, and that's when she joined a band. Connie Fligg, Trevi's mom, said, "But yeah, we were skeptical. You don't know what you're getting into, you know, a girl from Iowa going to Los Angeles, getting into an all girls rock band."

After taking the stage, "Exit" was applauded with a standing ovation from the audience, and hugs of praise from U2. Turns out, amongst the crowd of 25,000 fans, were several record reps. Now, that girl from Iowa, and the rest of "Exit," are the focus of some major labels like Time Warner, Geffen, Universal and Sony Records. For mom and dad, the skepticism has turned to excitement. Bob Fligg, Trevi's father, said, "She is certainly a girl who believes in chasing that dream and we support that."

"Exit" is in the process of cutting a demo tape to give to reps, before making any decisions. For now, they're performing in some of LA's hottest rock clubs, and writing new music. It's all in hopes of one day making "rocking out" a more regular occurrence.

We talked to Trevi on the phone Monday night, and she tells us "Exit" has been around for five or six years, and used to be a U2 tribute band. It wasn't until a year ago, she auditioned and was brought on board.

In addition to all the attention from the music industry, Paramount Pictures has already asked "Exit" for the rights to make a movie on their story of success.
