Fired for Privacy

A woman fired for refusing to share personal information with her employer is speaking out.

Lisa Bonifas talked to ABC5 about her recent firing from the Urbandale public library.
Bonifas refused to put her height and weight on an employee ID badge that the city began requiring in July.
The city warned her, and suspended her twice before firing her on July 26th.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says an employer can ask for height or weight as long as they don't discriminate based on that information,
and can discipline the employee if they refuse the request.
Bonifas still refused to share her information.

"It's more of a principal thing," Bonifas said. "I mean, how much can an employer ask?"

The City of Urbandale would not comment on the firing or the ID policy that led to the firing.
