CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) - A bicyclist is in critical condition after an accident during the RAGBRAI bike tour south of Charles City.

The Floyd County Sheriff's Office says 68-year-old Stephen Briggs, of Waverly, was in a group of bicyclists when he collided with another bike and was thrown off Thursday morning.

Briggs was treated at the scene by a RAGBRAI ambulance for a head injury, then flown to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, where he is listed in critical condition.

The sheriff's office says several doctors, nurses and paramedics who were on the bike tour across Iowa assisted at the scene.
