DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Democrats and even Rep. Leonard Boswell agree he has a tough re-election fight ahead of him.
The 3rd District Democrat from Des Moines will face Republican Brad Zaun, a state senator and former mayor of Urbandale.
Strategists say it could be tough for Democrats this fall, and the relatively close number of Democrats, Republicans and nonaffiliated voters in the 3rd District always make races hard.
Boswell tells The Associated Press he always expects a competitive race.
Republicans note the Democratic Party is spending heavily to boost Boswell's campaign, and last weekend former President Bill Clinton raised money for Boswell in Iowa.
Democratic strategists say if Democrats lose seats like the 3rd District, the party could have a tough time holding its House majority.
