WINTHROP, Iowa (AP) - A major manufacturing plant in eastern Iowa is closing.

North Carolina-based Wilbert Plastic Services says it is closing its plant in Winthrop and will begin consolidating operations immediately with plants in Minnesota and North Carolina. It says the Winthrop plant will be shut down by midyear, affecting 117 employees.

Wilbert says it is giving the Iowa employees a chance to relocate where there are job possibilities within the organization. Wilbert, which says it is the world's largest custom thermoforming and injection-molding company, currently has nine plants in various parts of the United States.
