DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A new Iowa Poll by The Des Moines Register shows fewer than half of Iowans approve of President Barack Obama's performance in office.

The poll was published in a copyright story in the Register on Saturday.

The results show that Obama's job approval fell to 49 percent from 53 percent in September. His approval is down 19 percentage points since an Iowa Poll in January.

An estimated 44 percent of respondents disapprove of Obama's job, while 7 percent said they weren't sure.

The telephone poll of 800 adult Iowans was conducted Nov. 8-11 by Selzer & Co. of Des Moines. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Obama carried Iowa last year by winning 54 percent of the vote.
