IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Prosecutors have asked to dismiss all 72 immigration charges against a former Iowa kosher slaughterhouse manager after his conviction on financial fraud charges.
The move came after 50-year-old Sholom Rubashkin was convicted last week in federal court on 86 financial fraud charges that could bring a prison sentence of hundreds of years. The Agriprocessors Inc. plant in Postville, Iowa, where he was the manager was the site of a massive immigration raid in May 2008.
Prosecutors filed the motion Thursday morning, one day after a bail hearing for Rubashkin.
Rubashkin was scheduled to go on trial for the immigration charges on Dec. 2 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
