Police: Robbery suspect shot in Waterloo

Associated Press - November 19, 2009 8:24 AM ET

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say a Waterloo police officer shot a suspect in a home-invasion robbery who tried to flee and rammed a squad car blocking the escape route.

Capt. Tim Pillack says three people, some armed with guns, forced their way into a home on Wednesday and confronted the people inside.

When officers arrived, the suspects ran out the back door of the house.

Pillack says police approached 1 of the suspects in a car about a block away and police cars sandwiched him in.

Pillack says one officer opened fire when the driver rammed the squad car. He says the driver, who was the only one in the car, suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Police have not identified any of the suspects. No other additional information was immediately released.
