DAKOTA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Law enforcement officials say a man accused of killing his wife and her friend escaped authorities twice before he surrendered.
Kyle Deemer is on trial for the shooting deaths of Jessica Deemer and Bryce Mercer near Marshalltown in October 2008.
Two officers testified Wednesday that Kyle Deemer led them on separate high-speed chases on back roads, a pasture and a corn field and escaped.
Iowa State Patrol trooper Gerri McCurdy testified that hours after the killings, he received a call from a truck stop on Interstate 35 where employees believed they had spotted Deemer.
McCurdy says he saw a man walking underneath a bridge. He drew his gun and told the man to stop. The man dropped to the ground.
