Iowa's GOP gubernatorial hopefuls discuss views

Associated Press - November 7, 2009 9:54 PM ET

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Six Republicans who are considering running for Iowa governor next year say voters are ready to give the party power again after nearly 12 years of Democratic control.

They spoke Saturday at the Republican Party of Iowa's big fall fundraiser.

All six made 10-minute speeches touting themselves. They spent more time talking about their views and what they see as the failures of Democratic Gov. Chet Culver than they did criticizing each other.

It was the first time the potential candiates have met since four-term former Gov. Terry Branstad said he's exploring the notion of seeking a comeback. Branstad said he would pledge not to criticize the other GOP candidates.
