Guess what? Winter officially begins in two week! Yeah, well, what does the calendar know! It is going to be a full-fledged WINTER weekend- complete with cold and snow!
First, we are going to have a cold but dry night with mostly clear skies and temperatures dropping below ZERO in most areas of central and northern Iowa. Winds will be lighter tonight and Saturday though, so at least we have that going for us.
We will start the day Saturday with sunshine and bitterly cold temps, but as the temps start to climb some clouds will be rolling in during the afternoon. That should keep temperatures from getting past the mid 10s for most locations.
Snow will begin to fall late Saturday night into early Sunday morning for western Iowa first. I expect our light to occasionally moderate snow will get going by mid-morning in central Iowa and then continue for most of the day. It is still looking like 2-4" generally across central Iowa with possibly more areas to our NW.
Monday will be cold and dry, but the winds could cause some blowing of this fluffy snow, so there might be some morning commute problems to contend with- we will keep an eye on that possibility!
Have a great weekend!
